Schone Bride Studio Tour

Schone Bride

“I used to think a wedding was a simple affair. Boy and girl meet, they fall in love, he buys a ring, she buys a dress, they say I do. I was wrong. That’s getting married. A wedding is an entirely different proposition.” — George Banks, Father of the Bride

My sister-in-law Rebecca just opened a bridal boutique in Brooklyn called Schone Bride, and over the holidays we got to see it in person.  And then I decided I need to renew my vows so she can make me a dress. Ahem—another dress. She designed and made my bridesmaids’ dresses for our wedding when she was only 21!

The space is, in a word, stunning—the decor, the details and, of course, the DRESSES!

Do you die? I die. I wanted to flit around in every single one.

Schone Bride serves as the flagship store for her brand, Rebecca Schoneveld Bridal, which she has made into a grand success over the last several years in Brooklyn. Her boutique is a collection of her own custom gowns, made on the premises, as well other locally-made brands like Claire La Faye and Truvelle. With a showroom space in the front, and a design studio in the back, it provides a place for the intelligent bride to understand  the craft of dressmaking first-hand.

Rebecca and I share a love of design, and I am kind of obsessed with every single detail. She is allowed to be as whimsical and girlie as humanly possible. Most importantly, the space feels comfortable and inviting—the most you can hope for when shopping for the most important dress of your life!

There’s a chair swing. And a patterned chaise. And palm-tree wallpaper. It’s like I died and went to Domino magazine heaven.

Everywhere you turn, there is sparkle and lace.

You can actually see everyone at work in the back, hand-making every detail.

And for a mere moment, I was a fairy princess riding a unicorn enveloped in silk and tulle, riding through an enchanted forest.

My Prince Charming, however,  just happened to be wearing jeans and a hoodie—reminding me that I’m no Princess Bride.

Mawage.
