In exactly 20 days from today, we will be moving in. Not that I’m counting the seconds or anything. We both sort of feel like we’re on the longest flight of our life and we’re just shutting our eyes real tight and dreaming that one day soon we’ll be waking up with everything in order. Living in chaos is not something I do well, and something I’m learning my husband doesn’t do as well as I thought he would. Case in point, he bought a Shop-Vac so he can vacuum the construction zone every chance he gets, which I’m pretty sure our contractor finds hilarious.
But, let me back up. We got back to town after a North Carolina holiday on December 30th, the same day my husband’s boss called to tell him they were going on a mandatory hiatus until more funding was secured. HAPPY NEW YEAR! The initial shock put some smaller things into perspective and now we’re seeing his free days as a blessing in disguise to help manage this project. I hope we still feel that way in a month! So, like I was saying, our Ikea kitchen was being installed the day after we returned and was supposed to take 2 days. We are on day 6 and the cabinets still aren’t done. Don’t get me started…
So, where does that leave us? Well, we have tile. At least partially. It should be finished in the next few days. Then, the flooring begins.
The Mister couldn’t take the cabinets sitting around, so he decided to do part of it himself and broke one of the wood pieces, so off he went to Home Depot for the 50th time to buy wood to fix it.
But, he does get credit for finding this amazing brass chandelier on Craigslist for $50 and we bought really great black shades to go on it. We have high hopes it’s going to look very similar to this one from Circa Lighting that costs $1680.00 and we will have about $120 in it (plus a million man hours polishing it).
I SPY FRENCH DOORS!!! Remember that argument?
We have both gotten our hands dirty, sanding and painting the laundry closet and cabinets, which I literally just finished painting.
Here’s a photo as proof!
Guest bath. The black and white tile is for the floor.
Master Bath. Still a ways to go…
I hope by the end of next week, we’ll be seeing some major progress. For the rest of the day, I plan to kick back with some friends to watch the Golden Globes, a true escape from the less than glam life I’m living this month. Keep ya posted!
It will all be so worth it! Full steam ahead!
Hang in there, it will all be worth it. And yes it’s a blessing in disguise that the Mister has some extra time on his hands at this precise magic moment. Btw you guys are the cutest couple and both so lucky to have each other.
Looking good Molls. Really like the chandelier, it’s going to look great. Can’t wait to see it all finished. Hang in there. those things that don’t kill us only makes us stronger.
