EGGSLUT

Yup, I’m taking you downtown again. Those of you westsiders are just going to have to suck it up, cause the new and cool are flocking to the eastside. All the rage at the moment is Eggslut, a stand in line, sit at the counter, gourmet eatery in the middle of Grand Central Market and ohhhh sooooo good on a Saturday morning kind of place. You follow me?

And, I’m not kidding about the line. This was at 9am. Wake up early kids. You won’t be sorry.

In fact, the Mister waited in that line, while I made a beeline for G&B coffee, which will definitely satisfy the snobbiest of connoisseurs (moi).

It’s owned by the people who brought us Go Get Em Tiger, my favorite neighborhood coffee bar. They make the greatest almond milk in the entire world…so great that I demanded the recipe and have been making it at home. Maybe I’ll share it soon if you’re lucky. 😉

So anyway, I made it back with our coffees just in time to place my order. I get pretty excited about food, can you tell?

What we have here is the Slut (well, I never!) …a coddled egg on top of a smooth potato purée, poached in a glass jar and served with toasty crostini.

And THIS masterpiece called the Fairfax…soft scrambled eggs, chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and sriracha mayo on a warm portuguese bun.

So stuffed and high on caffeine, we took ourselves on a little walking tour of Grand Central Market, a food lovers paradise.

Until we made our way out the opposite end for a beautiful view of downtown and something called Angels Flight, a now defunct railway that connected Hill Street & Olive Street, something of a landmark in this area called Bunker Hill. Fifteen years in L.A. and still discovering…

I love L.A.

  1. We could use one of those in L-Town. I starting to get tired of banana pancakes every Saturday morning.
