Good morning from the Golden Door—a bucket list destination if ever there was one! They are a new client of mine, which I am very excited about, so I’m down in Escondido for the week disconnecting from real life. I won’t make this an ad, but a week here is transformative. Part of the experience is eating truly farm-to-table, something I very much support. That said, I am also Southern. So, I can’t help but indulge in comfort food from time to time.
Today, I give you an ode to artisanal toast (the latest in food trends) and where you should have brunch this weekend!
Toast and coffee…is there a more perfect breakfast combo? And Sqirl is exactly the place to find it in Los Angeles. It is located in a rather unremarkable section of Los Feliz.
The artisanal toast, however, IS remarkable. This is their Open Face Brioche Toast with Kale, Tomatillo Puree, Lacto Fermented Hot Sauce, Fried Egg. SO savory.
Which goes absolutely perfect with a bite of the Burnt Brioche Toast with House Ricotta & Seasonal Jam. What I wouldn’t give for some of that!
And if you don’t live in L.A., don’t worry…I’m not leaving you out! You can order their homemade preserves online. I highly recommend the Santa Rosa Plum & Flowering Thyme.
That’s enough torture for me today! I’m off to have a little vegetable broth and raw almonds before another workout! Enjoy the last days of summer…can you believe it’s almost gone?!!
