So…I went BIG for my birthday this year.
For years I have talked about having a sailing adventure in the Marina, and this was the year! I called up Blue Pacific Boating (which I cannot recommend more highly), gathered 8 friends and off we went, for a day that will go down as one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had.
We all hopped aboard with our big hats, sunscreen and lots of bubbly!
And water, of course. Customized labels by Sweet Peach Paperie on Etsy (only $6!)
Catering by Bay Cities Italian Deli, the absolute best deli in LA, located in Santa Monica. It is very popular, so a little secret is to order ahead online. You’ll be in and out in no time and ready for a beach picnic or, like today, lunch on a boat!
A few things I learned when renting a boat… I prefer to be in control of food & beverage. That way, you know what you are getting and you won’t over pay. We were allowed to bring just about anything we wanted aboard. We could have even grilled off the back, but a sandwich tray and a few snacks felt much easier. Captain Fran was in charge of our boat and she even gave us a couple extra hours, which was so generous! But, after feeling a little woozy from the waves, we also decided we preferred to stay close to the Marina and just soak up the sun (sans nausea).
Cupcakes by my favorite bakery in L.A….Susie Cakes!
Present Time! Oh, I’ll be throwing a game night. Just you wait.
And a gorgeous ring from Virginia and Bradford! I’m going to throw boating birthdays more often!
This paddle boarder was practically holding on to our boat! And we all decided that was going to be our next excursion.
The sun was setting and this very perfect day was coming to an end. Thanks to Virginia & Bradford, Brianna & Kathy, Brian & Brandon, Jenn and of course my amazing other half who helped me celebrate another year wiser.
May we always feel this young!
*We did a 4 hour sail, but we actually got 6 hours. We usually leave town for my birthday, but you can rent a sailboat for much cheaper than taking a trip somewhere (especially when flights are involved). This is one of the best things I have done in L.A. and it was worth every penny. Next time, we decided to get a group of friends together and all pitch in, which would make this extremely affordable. Talk about the best staycation ever!
Wow amazing! That first pic looks like the cover of Travel & Leisure! And as for SusieCakes…you might be surprised (but then you probably won’t be!) that I was her very 1st customer ever (kind of). She was opening across from RH in BW and had a sign up in the window saying SusieCakes coming soon, with a phone number. I called immediately to find out exactly what that was all about, and had a very nice conversation with Susan, who told me she was patterning it after MY favorite bakery, Magnolia. I was so excited and told her that although I’d be in Croatia when she opened, I’d come in my 1st day back, which I did, introduced myself, and we’ve had a passionate love affair ever since. She always tells me she considers me her 1st customer, and I’m certainly one of her best! Going there today with Suleka and Clover. Let me know if you have any options for San Marino :-). And I’m soooo glad you had such an incredible day!! Many, many more to come!!!
Thank you!! Of course you were the first customer…I’m not surprised at all. I’m only surprised you weren’t camped out all night waiting for it to open!
We are so glad to read you had such an unforgettable birthday adventure! Thank you for letting Blue Pacific Boating be a part of your special day! Please let us know when you are ready for your next trip!
