It’s no secret that L.A. based Susie Cakes can put most bakeries to shame when it comes to their cakes and cupcakes. Somehow they manage to keep them so light, yet decadent—holding on to that “fresh from mom’s oven” taste. Even Martha Stewart agrees—she picked their strawberry frosting-filled as her favorite.
You can imagine my delight when my dessert-o-holic friend Sandra came to our last dinner armed with nothing less than a Susie Cakes whoopie pie. Whoopie pies on the west coast?! I thought I was dreaming. The perfect consistency of their sweet, fluffy frosting sandwiched between two chocolate cookie-cakes sent me into fits of glee…or maybe it was just a really great sugar coma.
Seduced by a Food Network segment on Wicked Whoopies years ago, I became forever intrigued. I even tried making them at home. Now I can be fat AND lazy. And you can too. WHOOPIE!
