Cure Salon at the Sunset Tower Hotel
Lately, my wanderlust has taken over my very being like some trapped wild creature begging to escape. I’m not great at sitting still and LA has held me hostage since I got back from London in January. My hair seemed to mimic that sentiment—dull & unruly, though unlike me, it can thankfully be tamed. I’m a natural blonde, but it can get rather lackluster, so I called my favorite colorist Jamie Boone to brighten everything up a bit. Nestled in the depths of the historic & very glam Sunset Tower Hotel is where her magic happens.
Back in the ‘Golden Era’ of Hollywood, the Sunset Tower was THE place to live in L.A. John Wayne had an apartment in what is now the salon and Frank Sinatra, Howard Hughes & Iggy Pop all had apartments here. It’s been restored through the years, but the turn of the century ambience remains in tact. It’s still one of the best places in town for a great celebrity sighting.
A gold and marble staircase winds you down to Cure Salon (formerly the Argyle), where you are greeted with an offering of tea or champagne.
But on this hot day, I needed some bubbles of a different kind, so I promptly ordered a coke, which arrived in a cute little bottle with ice and a metal straw. ‘I’m so fancy…’
I get a lot of questions about my hair—where I get it done, what products I use, etc. so I thought I’d let you in on my secrets. I plopped down in the chair and let Jamie take control.
Of course Jamie uses the best brushes money can buy, including the famous Maison Pearson, but she also turned me on to the more affordable Sheila Stotts, which is what I use at home. It helps get out my severe tangles without breaking off my baby fine strands.
I keep the Oribe shampoo as something special at the salon. I can’t bring myself to spend the $40/bottle, but if you are in the mood for a splurge, nothing smells more heavenly.
That’s Jamie on the right and her apprentice Korie painting my hair the perfect shade of blonde. If you’re in need of extensions, Jamie is one of the very best!
Go big or go home! Jamie knows I like volume, volume, volume, so she uses several round brushes to give me a Southern girl blow out. I don’t have the patience to do this at home, so I load up on Bumble & Bumble thickening spray to give my roots a lot of lift before I throw my head over and blow it dry. I then add some unkempt waves with a Hot Tools curling iron or The Beachwaver. After a quick shake to separate the waves, I spray a light coat of Redken Wax Blast for some added texture and a final spritz of hairspray. I have a lot of hair, but it’s super fine, so I need a lot of product to give it volume and hold.
Voilà!
Sun-kissed and ready for adventure!

Ooh la la madame, quelle femme fatale!!! You were pretty when I met you over a decade ago, now you are ravissant!!!! Not sure if the magic is in the hair products, but whatever it is you’re doing, don’t stop. Dave is one lucky son-of-a-gun, and should be counting his lucky stars.
