I’m not sure how it’s possible that in thirteen years of living in Los Angeles, I only recently made it to Lake Tahoe. It could be that I hate to be cold, so relaxing at a higher altitude is low on my to do list. But, I’ll tell you…Lake Tahoe in the summer is magnificent. We went last August for one of our many weddings. I loved The Resort at Squaw Creek so much that I decided I might even be willing to bundle up in snow gear and head back during ski season (which would be now).
What I loved most was not what you might expect. The decor wasn’t something reminiscent of Kit Kemp, nor did they have a fabulous bar with a famous mixologist handcrafting cocktails. But, what made this hotel special was that everything felt fresh and new and I never felt like I was being ripped off—a common complaint at large resorts. You get what you pay for, or possibly more (check out their Spring Break package). The vibe is upscale, relaxed—as if you are staying in your very own newly renovated mountain house.
Speaking of relaxed…your morning should begin with breakfast on the patio overlooking the Sierra Nevadas, followed by a dip in the jacuzzi. Well, really, shouldn’t every morning?

And the crisp, clean air is as though it is being breathed for the very first time.
