Are you thinking what I’m thinking? How have I only now been to Austin? I know, I know! It’s obviously been on my list for years, but it took a very chic boutique hotel to actually get me to book. Hands down my favorite part was the incredible restaurants (are you shocked?!). From dynamic cuisine by a Top Chef winner in a very cool new hotel, to traditional Texas style bbq, there is a delicious bite for everyone.
Though I only had just over 24 hours in Austin, I managed to eat, drink, my way through this funky little city. Here are all the places that should be on your list!
What to do in Austin in just 24 hours:
Where to lay your head in luxury: Hotel Saint Cecilia
Where to get caffeinated and get a touristy IG shot: Jo’s on Congress
Where to get the best tacos ever: Torchy’s Tacos
Where to find the best mac ‘n cheese EVER and some pretty fine barbecue:Terry Black’s
Where to have oysters & a glass of wine: Perla’s
Where to go for happy hour: Historic Rainey Street—there are so many cute little bars all lined up in homes that have been converted into bars. Check out Parlor Room and Half Step.
Where to have incredible sushi: Uchi
Where to find a secret mezcaleria (open on the weekends) and also the coolest bar in town: Whisler’s
Where to have a dinner cooked by a Top Chef winner: Arlo Grey at The Line Hotel
The Hotel Saint Cecilia is not only a very stylish stay, but it’s private grounds and curated exclusivity is sometimes just what the doctor ordered. I love their unique style, poolside bungalows, and cozy lounge.
Head over to historic Rainy Street for happy hour or for all-night bar hopping. There was a water issue when I was in town, so many of the bars couldn’t wash glasses and reverted to plastic. Well, I never!
South Congress street is the “main drag,” and we were lucky enough to be staying within walking distance. Though it can be considered touristy, there are still amazing food options and funky little shops.
I was not above getting a touristy photo in front of the Jo’s wall on South Congress. And neither should you!
