I stumbled into the Compartés chocolate shop on Melrose Place last week by accident. It’s located in the very back of Alfred Coffee downstairs, so it’s easy to miss. The boutique itself is tiny, but packs a big punch with the design.
The chocolate has been handmade in Brentwood since 1950 (how have I only learned this?!). Each flavor showcases a stunning design on the wrapper, with an extra fabulous limited collection by Kelly Wearstler. I came home with the Bijou Bar—dark chocolate coated in multicolored sugar crystals—and got that same childlike and fancy feeling as when I put sprinkles on top of an ice cream sundae. I finished the last gorgeous bite last night, just in time for Valentine’s Day. If anyone is stumped on a gift (honey?), Compartés will surely make you a hero. Even if of only your own heart.
