One thing I love about urban living is how the farmers market is never very far away. In my neighborhood, it happens every Sunday in Larchmont Village. I like that it forces me to think about what’s in season and plan meals based on what’s available. Last weekend it was brimming with strawberries and basil. What to do with 3 cartons of strawberries?? I went the healthy route and put them in a delicious smoothie. What’s your favorite famers market creation?
Farmers Market Strawberry Basil Smoothie
1 small carton of fresh strawberries, stems removed
a handfull of basil, stems removed
1 5.3 oz container of Greek yogurt (I like to use Fage with honey and use the honey from the yogurt container)
2 tblsp honey **if your Greek yogurt doesn’t come with honey
1 tsp wheatgerm (for your health)
handful of ice
agave to taste
Directions:
Put first 5 ingredients into a blender and blend for about 30 seconds. Add ice. Blend until smooth. Taste to see if you like it sweeter. If so, add a tablespoon or so of agave. Makes 2.
