We arrived at The Yeatman in Porto having just spent two glorious days at Six Senses in the Douro Valley. If this gives you any indication of the reputation of Six Senses, our bellman actually said, “Oh no, you came from Six Senses! We are always worried our guests will be disappointed when they arrive from that hotel.” So while The Yeatman is where you want to stay in Porto if you demand five star luxury, just know that in terms of service, they aren’t quite up to that very high standard. That said, The Yeatman does a lot right. A Relais and Chateau property with a two-Michelin star restaurant, the grandness doesn’t disappoint. The 82-room property feels like a luxurious Portuguese manor house.
It opened in 2010 and overlooks the city centre of Oporto. It is considered a wine hotel and houses one of the most comprehensive collections of Portuguese wine in the region. From sweeping views of the Douro River and all of Porto to kaleidoscopic decor that stops you in your tracks…
This is The Yeatman, and it’s my next Stylish Stay.
What I Loved: The stunning decor—at once formal and comfortable—is the perfect prelude to the jaw dropping views of Porto and the Douro River from the terrace. Overall we were happy with the ambience, but felt the attention to detail could use some improvement.
Suite Dreams: Despite the long walk from the lobby, our room was really big and really luxurious. We had zero complaints! We had an incredible view of the city, but it was partially blocked by cranes due to the construction. It is definitely worth asking if the construction is finished, as the noise could be bothersome if you are a late sleeper. We loved the bathroom with huge tub and stand alone shower.
Stylish Sips: Don’t miss Dick’s Bar & Bistro, where you can relax with an Aperol Spritz or glass of wine in a private club like atmosphere with those same amazing views inside or outside on the terrace.
Cool Factor: There are no better views and no hotel more luxurious in Porto.
Hero Shot: In Dick’s Bar & Bistro, cocktail in hand.
