You know the drill. It’s Saturday night, you want to meet some friends for a drink. Agreeing on a location becomes more hassle than it’s worth. Bar Covell solved that problem for me. And now, the owners have opened L&E Oyster Bar situated across from another of my faves LAMILL coffee. The neighborhood vibe makes it cozy. The no reservation policy makes it really busy. But, it’s the perfect place to spend a late Saturday afternoon with friends or for an impromptu date night with the one you love.
My recommendation? Skip the full dinner and stick to what they do best—really fresh oysters and great wine. The Daily Dozen is the way to go—a sampling of the chefs picks such as Marin Miyagi, Kumiai, and Shigoku for $28. Paired with a glass of Paco y Lola Albariño, great conversation is sure to flow. At least until the bread pudding arrives. It’s an absolute must. But, if you want coffee with that, you’ll have to walk across the street to LAMILL. Aw, shucks.
